BARITONE

Robert studied singing at Manhattan School of Music, New York, the Tanglewood Music Center, Aspen Music Festival (performing lead role in John Casken’s Golem) and the Britten Pears School. He was a recipient of the Garsington Opera Prize.

Recent work includes Daedalus in Monster in the Maze (Crucible/Music in the Round), Father in The Sandman and the Dew Fairy (co-devised with director Ruth Knight for ROH), Wise Man in Moon Hares at the Queen Elizabeth Hall (Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment), Gubbins/Dragon in Lampe’s The Dragon of Wantley (New Sussex Opera), Major General in Pirates of Penzance (Celebrate Voice Festival), Scaphio in Utopia Limted (G&S Festival), Orlando Gough’s Weather the Storm (Garsington Opera), Frank in Die Fledermaus (Iford Festival) and Calchas in Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène (New Sussex Opera).

Other work includes Billy Budd in Billy Budd REimagined (ROH) Scott Stroman’s new opera ‘The Weekend’,based on Michael Palin’s play, (Bloomsbury Theatre), Hortensius in La Fille du Regiment (Opera della luna at the  Buxton Festival), The Fairy Queen Project (Orchestra Age of Enlightenment), Aeneas (Bruges Early Music Festival), Manz in Delius’s A Village Romeo and Juliet (New Sussex Opera at Cadogan Hall London), Wigmaster Ariadne auf Naxos, Starvelling A Midsummer Night's Dream (Garsington Opera), Beautiful World Opera and Water in the Desert Project in Abu Dhabi, Villon in Ezra Pound’s Le Testament de Villon (London Contemporary Music Festival), Dick in Luke Styles Unborn in America (Vaults Festival), Frank in Die Fledermaus (St Johns Smith Square), Lord Cecil in Philip Cashian’s The Cumnor Affair (Tête à Tête), workshops on Raskatov’s A Dog’s Heart (Complicitié/Simon McBurney), Compere in The Answer to Everything (Streetwise Opera/BFI), Head Fox in children’s opera Outfoxed at the Royal Festival Hall, Captain Corcoran (D'Oyly Carte at the Savoy), Atalanta, Agrippina, Imeneo and Tamerlano (Cambridge Handel Opera), Papageno, Schaunard, Masetto and Mr Lindquist in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music (Opera Project), Journalist in Jonathan Dove’s TV opera Man on the Moon (Channel 4), Dave Brubeck’s cantata La fiesta e la posada (London Symphony Orchestra /Barbican).

He has also performed roles for the Opera Group, Grange Park Opera, Sinfonia Viva, Bampton Classical Opera, Celebrate Voice Festival and Pimlico Opera’s Prison Project, covered at Opera North and is a member of newly formed/Snape Maltings based Tale Collectors..

Future work includes recitals with Nathan Williamson and Gretel Dowdeswell Bach’s St Matthew Passion in Chichester Cathedral and Haydn’s Creation at Giggleswick School.
